Abstract

This research was motivated by several problems of students in the 11 grade of SMAN 1 Mapattunggul related to students' reading comprehension ability. The problem of this research is Students’ reading comprehension were low, Students lack vocabulary and the students lack motivation and lack self confidence to learn English. This research aimed to determine whether there was a significant effect of using click clunk strategy on students’ reading comprehension ability. The research used experimental research. The researcher used a pre-experimental research used a one-group pre-test and post-test class. The population of this research was the 11th grade students of SMAN 1 Mapattunggul. There was experimental group, namely class 11 IPS (20 students) which was treated as experimental class taught used the click clunk strategy. Researcher used purposive sampling to determine the sample of this research. To analyze the data, the researcher used the normality test by used the Liliefors test and homogeneity by using the F test. Meanwhile, to test the hypothesis, the researcher used the t test and consulted the results with the degret table (?) = 0.05. From the results and calculation the pretest and post-test score of the experimental class, the results of the t-obtained (15.39) was higher than the t-table (2.024) with degrees of freedom (df) = 20 with = 0.05. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted that there was a significant effect using the click clunk strategy. It was proven that using the click clunk strategy can help students improve reading ability.
