Abstract
This research aimed to determine the effect of using concept cartoon on students motivation in speaking at the eighth grade of MTsN 6 Agam. The researcher found that students had difficulty in speaking in front of the class; lack of encouragement or support from the environment; social environmental factors, fear of speaking in front of class.; monotonous teaching method and interesting media that made students were at motivation in English. This research used experimental research with quasi experimental design by using questionnaire in experimental and control groups. The population of this research were four classes at eighth grade students of MTsN 6 Agam that taught by the same teacher consisted of 126 students. To determine the sample, the researcher used cluster random sampling. The samples were VIII.5 as the experimental class and VIII.6 as the control class. The data were got from the result of students’ motivation in speaking in the before and after giving questionnaire. The results of the paired sample t-test showed that tobtained (7,948) was higher than ttable (1,697) for 31 degrees of freedom with a significant level of 0,05. The null hyphothesis was rejected and the alternative hyphothesis was accepted. For the second and third hypotheses, an independent sample t-test was used to compare two classes. With a significance of 0,025. The results of the hypothesis test showed that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted because the tobtained (9,652) was greater than the ttable (2,001) for df 61. It can be concluded that there was a significant difference in the use of concept cartoons on students' motivation in speaking. This means there was a significant effect of using Concept cartoon on students’ motivation in speaking at class VIII of MTsN 6 Agam. It concluded that there was a significant difference in the use concept cartoon on students motivation in speaking. And It could be concluded that students’ motivation in speaking by using concept cartoon was better than students motivation in speaking without using concept cartoon. The researcher proved that the Concept Cartoon as a learning strategy that can enhance students motivation in speaking.
