Abstract
The research was due to several problems identified in the field; Same male students were more active and confident in answering questions when learning English than female students. In contrast, some female students seemed less enthusiastic about learning English and were too quiet or passive. However, most male and female students said that learning English was difficult. The study aims to compare the attitudes between male and female students in learning English. This research seeks to test Gardner's theory, which suggests that there are differences in attitudes between male and female students toward language learning, with female students' attitudes toward learning English, the study employs Baker's theory, which identifies three components of attitude: cognitive, affective, and conative. The cognitive component involves students' beliefs and understanding of learning English, the affective component relates to students' feelings or emotions toward learning English, and the conative component reflects students' actions or behaviors in learning English. The study involved 78 students: 39 male and 39 female. Proportionate stratified random sampling was used. The instrument used in this research was a questionnaire adapted from Esghinejad (2016), consisting of 30 items. The result shows there was a significant difference between male and female students' attitudes toward learning English, with Sig. (2-tailed) 0.014. Where females have a significantly positive attitude than males. Females have positive attitude than males in all aspects of attitude. Overall, the mean score of female students' attitude was 3.88. Conversely, male students' attitude score was 3.60. In addition, male and female students have a positive attitude toward learning English.
