Abstract
This research aimed at finding to ascertain the efficacy of a visual scaffolding strategy in facilitating English vocabulary mastery. This research was conducted to explore students' difficulties in vocabulary mastery. The fact indicated that students have problems in learning vocabulary, such as understanding the meaning of the words, and some students answered the test using Indonesian words. Students only memorize vocabulary while in class, but after that sometimes forget what they have learned previously. In addition, the classroom teaching process focused more on teacher-centered orientation. This research employed a pre-experiment design, which combines a pre-test and post-test given to one group. The sample comprised 21 students from class 5B at SDN 087981 Sibolga. The researcher employed a descriptive quantitative technique to analyze the results of the pre-test and post-test. The research instrument used a written test consisting of 20 questions. The study was conducted over six meetings: one pre-test, four treatments, and one post-test. The result of the research showed that the students' mean score on the pre-test was 54.76, and their score on the post-test was 85.75. These indicate an improvement of 30.99 points. This finding indicates a substantial enhancement in students' vocabulary mastery following the implementation of the Visual Scaffolding Strategy. The post-test percentage score was higher than the pre-test percentage score, and the t-test value was greater than the t-table value (32.1 > 8.40). The findings of the research study indicated that the implementation of the Visual Scaffolding Strategy was indeed effective in fostering students' vocabulary mastery. This outcome serves to reject the null hypothesis and substantiate the alternative hypothesis, thereby substantiating the claim that the Visual Scaffolding Strategy is a viable tool for improving students' vocabulary mastery.
