Abstract

This research is motivated by the number of students who fail in English subjects, not least although there are also some students who pass this subject in the Final Semester Exams although with very limited scores. This shows that teaching and learning activities especially the four basic English skills have failed such as speaking, reading, listening, and writing. Based on the observations made by the researchers, it was found that the students' English scores from the last three years did not increase, some students could not achieve the KKM scores, this was certainly caused by various factors such as internal factors and external factors. For this reason, the researcher conducted this study to reveal what factors were dominantly influencing the problem. This research used descriptive quantitative research. The population of this research was at Second Grade of SMK in Academic Year 2020/2021 consisted of two classes. The sample was XIfarmasi and XIperawat . To determine the sample, the researcher used a total sampling technique. The data was got through the questionnaire the supported by students’ English achievement score. Researchers collect data through the results of a calculated questionnaire. Then look for the percentage of data and the mean percentage and its supporters using a student document test, then make an explanation and conclusion. After collecting data from the questionnaire, the researchers identified the dominant factors that affect the English language skills of second grade students of SMK in the 2020/2021 academic year with a high average percentage. Based on the results of the study, it is shown that of the two factors that affect students' achievement in learning English, external factors are known with results (55.90%) and internal factors with results (54.40%). The dominant factor influencing the achievement of learning English in which the dominant is the external factor, namely the student's environmental factor, which was chosen by the respondents as much as 55.90%. Thus, it is concluded that external factors have a dominant influence on English learning achievement of students in class II SMK for the 2020/2021 academic year, namely (55.90%) with a range of 61% - 80% in the sufficient category.
