Abstract

This research aimed to reveal the effectiveness of using Inside Outside Circle Technique in teaching speaking . Although the teacher had used inside-outside circle technique, the researcher found that there were several problems. The first Students were limited in vocabulary. The second, Students were not fluent in speaking. And the last, Some students speaking ability were still varied. Thus, the writer has done the research in SMKN 1 Baso to know whether the use of Inside Outside Circle Technique is effective or not toward students speaking ability. This research was a descriptive quantitative. The populations of this research were 151 students of the tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Baso which consist of OTP 1,OTP2, AKL, PKM, TKJ, and TBSM. The researcher used purposive sampling to determine the sample because the researcher has some consideration to determine the samples. The researcher chose two of six classes as the sample. The sample in this research was 42 students. The technique of data collection in this research was documentation by collecting the students’ speaking score after scoring by the teacher. To analyze the data collected, the researcher used table of frequency and percentage table of students’ ability by calculated the mean, median, and modus. The researcher used rating scale to arrange the level of effectiveness. The result of the research showed that the use of inside outside circle technique is effective in teaching speaking. It can be seen from the analysis data of research on students’ speaking score that the use of inside outside circle technique. The percentage of the students is between 61-80 % with the mean score which was calculated is 78,59 with the rating quality is effective. It means the data proved that the inside outside circle technique is effective in teaching speaking at the tenth grade of SMKN 1 Baso
