Abstract

This research aimed to determine how students' motivation in learning English at Informatics and Computer Engineering Education at UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi. Understanding students' motivation in learning English is crucial to improve the effectiveness of language education programs. Motivation plays a role as a driving force behind students' involvement, effort, and persistence in language learning activities. Motivation in the context of learning refers to the acceptance of learning goals and tactics, exclusively related to extrinsic or intrinsic variables. Therefore, the researcher conducted an observation to determine the actual condition. The problem found was that students were less involved actively in English learning. The lack of students' confidence in learning English in class led to low motivation to participate actively in learning activities.
